Just bought a 50D and I need a memory card (thought I could use my Rebel XS memory)
What is a good card with good value in the 8gb or preferably 16gb size?
Thanks

I think the best value/speed card is the Sandisk Extreme III 30MB/s card at $130 for a 16 gigger.
Probably one of the cheapest yet fast cards.

Sandisk 16gb card goes on sale for ~$100 quite often at best buy. Fast enough for most things i shoot, including sports on my 50D. Not quite as fast as the Lexar Pro 300x, but fast enough.

Common knowledge dictates that do not put all of your eggs into one proverbial basket. Memory card fails or gets lost, or even stolen - you lose all photos. My biggest memory card is an 8GB, everything else are 2GB and 4GB.
In my line of work, it's critical that I don't lose any photos though so for someone who isn't shooting commercially, you can afford to carry one 16GB card. Something to think about._______________

Depending on what you shoot I prefer larger capacity cards. Sure there is always a chance of lost, stolen, or damaged cards but with smaller cards you are always switching them in and out of your camera and have a much higher chance of:
1) losing the cards
2) corrupting the cards in camera as you're pulling them in and out
3) losing the critical shot when your card runs out

I got a 16GB Sandisk Extreme III and a Kingston 32GB for my other, the kingston was $80 and using there products in the past no complaints/problems. Yes its not as fast as the Sandisk but its still fast enough on my 5dm2 for video and holds a lot of images! (expecially considering I shoot mostly 30mb raw files.)...
http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...rp.-_-20134901
Kingston Elite Pro series flash card boasts a data transfer speed up to 133X, equal to 25MB/sec reading speed and 20MB/sec writing speed. Compared to 30MB/sec write of the extreme III.
If you want the top end IMO, get the newest 16GB Kingston, will set you back about $120, beats the sandisk
Kingston 16GB Ultimate CF Card

With its ultra-fast transfer rates of 45MB/sec. read and 40MB/sec. write, you can capture more continuous, high resolution images in less time Co-Logo Program with the CompactFlash Ultimate than traditional CompactFlash memory cards.
Hope this helps.Last edited by magical; Oct 2nd, 2009 at 07:19 AM.
