I don't know if it's a common problem or just this card when using a custom resolution over DVI-to-HDMI cable, but I only get 7~10 fps on guildwars using this card output to my HDTV. ATI tech support suggests that the reason for this is because of the custom resolution I set for my 37inch HDTV.

The ATI tech support also suspects that my card is not a defective one as I was able to get 4500 3Dmark05 using a standard resolution output to my 19inch BenQ. Plus he said that if the card was showing signs of defect, I would see tearing, bad pixels, and artifects instead - so far I have not seen such symptons, but the slow down is killing me - I'm only getting 40fps in Battlefield 2 and around the same in CounterStrike: Source. Civ IV, on the other hand, is fine at 1080i resolutions.

It's almost like this card doesn't like driving 720p custom resolutions.

For the extra couple bucks, I would definately buy from BB instead of the mom and pop shops. I think the cheapest was CC @ $130 cash discounted, but add about $5 if using credit card and $10 if you need it shipped, then you're only saving like $5 (but with a worse return policy).

But if you're picking it up and paying cash, then CC might be ok.

Like I mentioned in my previous post, the performance of a X800XL should be on par with a X800pro, as the pro has 4 less pipelines but is clocked higher. The XL does better when AA is turned on due to the full 16 pipelines. 3Dmark performance should be under 5000 without over clocking.


However, like I mentioned, I found that the 3D performance of this card under a custom resolution output to my 37inch Sharp HDTV very disappointing. Most games are unplayable and the card yield worse framerate than my 9600XT. If you want to use this card to drive your HDTV, I suggest going with a Geforce 6600GT or above.

Ok, now this has me thinking. I need a video card for my new system (as well as a new motherboard, but that is a different subject)

Would I be ok to get this? I am a casual gamer, not hardcore, I like my games to play well, although I am only playing at 1280x1024.

I also saw a Radeon x850xt at Best buy for $199, would that be better off. Or should I go another $60 more and get the x1800xl for $260 at NCIX?

Help me out here, I am not sure what the best route to go is.

Just a warning, but this card is pretty much at the minimum specs for Crysis.
So If you really want to play this on PC, I would suggest waiting like me.

But on a sidenote, I own the ATI AIW X800 XL(although it is a XT core) and it plays all games B-e-a-utifully. I would suggest at least 1.5GB in your system if you want to get the most out of it.
