I need a printer asap for a family member. Nothing fancy.

I have the MFC-210C and my buddy has this MFC-240C. We both love 'em. The ink is real cheap on eBay. I bought 12 ink cartridges on eBay for about $20.00 delivered.

I believe this post should be removed from Hot Deal Forum.
My sister has this printers for a month and she is pretty happy with this. The review on the web said the print quality is just on average, but it is slower than most similar price printer.
However, this printer use a new generation of brother ink that the cheap ink is not wide avaliable. On the web, it will be about $7 per cartidages (total 4) plus $7-10 shipping.

Start with cheap generic ink availability, then decide on a printer from there.
You printer will only be a small fraction of the over-all cost over the life cycle of it.
Personally, I avoided HP as my ink supplier doesn't have cartridge for them ( I believe its because the print head is on the cartridge - or something like that ). You want a printer that just uses ink tanks. One's like Epson, you can even get continuous ink kits for them.

I've heard the ink comes half full in refurb or something, so consider that. This model is pretty basic, as the next ones up are a bit better. I bought the refurb 420cn (fax/network) for $70, as I found one in-store.

Thanks for all the suggestions. My relative doesn't really do heavy duty printing, she says she just needs something to print occasionally but needs one soon.
I'm the same, I rarely do much printing, I had a Lexmark before, but i hardly used it so the ink dried out. I'm personally looking around as well, should i go with an ink jet or a laser. For someone who doesn't do very much printing? Its mostly for document printing B and W.

Wait for Futureshop to put the Konica Laser on sale again for $69.99. Refill toner can be bought on Ebay for it and its easy to refill.

Doesn't appear to be on the website anymore.
It was a Black and White Laser.

Spend a little more to get either an HP or Lexmark - especially important since this person does not print much. These are the only printers that have the print head integrated into the cartridges so it prevents ink drying issues and head clogging that occur from infrequent use. Personally I wouldn't recommend any printer in the $100 dollar or less range as they are prone to failing, but if you must go with something on a budget then at least go with HP.
