Bestbuy Rewardzone + Gift cards

I was in my account today and saw this picture:

For whatever reason I am confused by the wording, and must ask a stupid question. Are they saying that if you buy a $50 gift card for someone you get the equivalent points of spending $50 on a purchase, OR that you get $50 in reward points. The second option seems illogical to me but I figure I might as well ask, because obviously if it by some chance is the 2nd option than it would make more sense to always buy GCs and use them for my purchases.

Maybe they mean buy a $X gift card and get X reward zone points?

This.

It's just treating buying of gift cards as a product. So technically they're allowing you to double dip here - get points for buying the gift card, and get points when you buy things with the gift card.

Unless things have changed, you don't get points for purchases paid for with a GC.

this is exactly what they mean. eg. if you buy a $50 gift card, they will give you 50 Rewards Points.

I assumed this was the case, but for whatever the reason the wording was throwing me for a loop. Thanks for the info everyone.
