I've heard some people use this to capture video from PS3 games. Anyone have any experience with it?

What is a slingbox and how does it work? Wifi? Do you need to host a server?

Slingbox is a little box that allows you to stream TV to your laptop, mobile phone anywhere as long as you have an internet connection. If you have it set up to a digital box, you can control the guide and if you have the PVR, you can control those functions as well.
No hosting a server...the box does everything.
I have 2 slingboxes, one in Toronto and one in Vancouver. Use it to watch on my TV and my cellphone.
But remember, slinging over the internet, your picture quality is only as good as the upload speed where the slingbox is located. Over LAN, it's awesome quality.
Need another one to replace my slingbox classic back in TO. I think the Slingbox solo I got couple years ago was on sale at Dell for $99.

Yep. On a 1mbps upload I get about 600-750kbps constant and can only manager QVGA which is 320x240 ... not very good. If I had a constant 750-850kbps upload then I could do VGA 640x480 which is good enough for computer viewing.
I am satisfied with my slingbox solo just wish my upload was just a bit better.

This one doesn't support HD. But the price is pretty good.

Guy, Please note that this is a "SlingCatcher" not a "SlingBox".....it is used for picking up streamed content........quot from the website "SlingCatcher lets you access digital video content from your Slingbox, PC or the Internet right on your TV"
It is for watching your content from your existing SlingBox on a different TV in another room or another part of the world....not just on your phone or computer which uses the slingmedia player software..
I don't want newbies disappointed when they get home with this if they don't already have a SlingBox.

I paid almost $300 when it first came out. It's an ok product. Not worth $300 but definitely worth $99. You can attach a hard drive and also connect to network shares. So if you have a slingbox, you can have quite a setup.

Thanks Phils for the feedback from an actual owner.....I have not tried the catcher yet, how is the picture quality on a TV for content from a remote slingbox? I know that it depends on the internet connection speed, but is it acceptable?
This is mainly what I will be using it for.

PM Stooples for even better savings..
Staples price is currently $239.99. If you get a PM, that would make it $85.99.
