Better Modem = Faster Speeds?
Does a Better Modem = Faster Speeds?
I have an ACATEL Speed Touch Home modem and would upgrading to a newer SpeedStream modem make a difference and whats the fastest SpeedStream modem out there?_______________

Your Alcatel Speed Touch should support up to 8Mbps (max of ADSL, IIRC), so unless you're not syncing at full speed, a new modem *might* sync at better rate

If your line is in good condition and you have no problems then no but if you are far from the CO and don't have a good line, a newer speedstream modem might help with stability and allow you to achieve slightly higher attainable speed.

A new modem won't improve the speed, as the speed profile set in the ISP.
But a new modem might improve the line stability, ie. less disconnects and such._______________

No idea for the "best", but my Speedstream 5200 E242 is preety good with keeping sync on my mediocre phone line.

usually no. i had an old samsung inforanger (5 years old) and my isp bumped up the speed to 7mb while i was only getting around 4. i swapped it for a newer RCA modem and was able to get the new speed.
