That's marketing BS. Higher resolution does not translate to better gaming performance. The only effect resolution has on mouse performance is sensitivity. It does not make the mouse more accurate or responsive. Typically FPS gamers like high sensitivity (for reflexes), which is why they like to stick to high resolution mice. Sensor quality is a lot more important for actual performance.
Why do you think nobody complained when the MX510 was "the mouse to get" a couple years ago, even though it's only 800 DPI? I use an MX518 and have the DPI tuned down to 800 because 1600 is just way too sensitive for everyday use. It doesn't make my mouse any less accurate.

MX510/MX518 are still the best gaming and regular use mice IMO.

I have a MX518 and G7, I would go for the MX518. Too many problems (skipping) and crap battery life from the G7.

I have the VX Revolution ... the smaller notebook version of the MX. It fits my hand well except the button near the index finger is a bit annoying. Would be perfect if it they designed one without it, the grip is nice and comfy. Get whatever fits in your hand so that you won't get RSI if you use it as much as I do.
Don't buy from ScammerDirect though. You can buy cheaper at Staples, Futureshop, etc when on sale and using discount gift cards.

Back when I used to own the G7, it would skip a lot. I didn't have a problem with the battery life.
Yes, the mouse dies a few times when I was gaming, but battery packs are a much better idea than a recharging dock.
I had an MX700 once upon a time. And when I had some crazy programming assignment and did it overnight, I'd end up with the keyboard only because the MX700 would need to be recharged.
With the G7 you never have this problem.
But I'm back to the good old optical with my M$ combo set. Couldn't be happier. 3 months life on 2 standard AA batteries is nothing to shrug at!_______________

Agreed. I own the MX518 and the G5. I prefer the MX518 for gaming. The scroll wheel has a better 3rd button click, the wheel has more distinct scroll, and there are two thumb buttons. I just wish it had the surface paint of the G5 since the MX518's smooth surface can attract dirt and oilyness.

Yeah the G5's paint is great for prolonged use. I actually don't mind having only one thumb button because I've never needed to use the "forward" function in browsing... mouse click gestures feel more natural for myself.
As for games, I never change the resolution of the mouse either, but having it set on just the right speed is great. And since all logitech mice buttons are programmable, I've got cruise up/down programmed as yes/no affirmative/negative in games, and thumb/scroll left/scroll right for anything else that I might need.
