Beware of Jarred Hayman - giftcard scammer
I found Jarred Hayman on kijiji selling HBC giftcard. We met at a HBC store to verify the balance, which it did. However, a few days later HBC cancelled the gift card on the basis that it was obtained due to fraudulent activites/returns. I didn't know about this until a few weeks later when I tried to use the giftcard.
Jarred used this email address:
This is him on facebook:
I spoke to the HBC Fraud Prevent group, and was told they are well aware of him. They believe his girlfriend is involved in the scam as well.
If you come across him on Kijiji or CL, stay away!
UPDATE:
Thanks to a fellow RDFer, I have since confirmed Jarred has moved to London, ON and is now using phone number. He is still using the same hotmail account.
However, it appears he is still in the business of scamming - google "647-207-3532" and you will see he has listed a bunch of giftcards for sale. Hope no one else falls for his crap.Last edited by oranr; Jun 28th, 2011 at 01:45 PM. Reason: removed personal information

Is his phone still active? Set up an auto-dialer to keep calling it, so he at least has to go through the inconvenience of a new number.

I'm not sure which email address he used on his facebook account.
Well, I pleaded my case with HBC, but they said under the circumstances they are not able to help. I am angry but also realistic about the unlikelihood of any recovery. I just want to make sure people know of this scammer.

What to do....
Hi,
Do you still have the ad id number? If you do, then contact the cops and file a report. Inform the Police to contact Kijiji and then Kijiji can release can all the information to the police; most importantly their Ip address and then the Police can track the Ip address to the computer.
If you don't have the Ip address, contact Kijiji and give them any information you have and remember like the email address and title of the post or any key words, the CS reps can look this up and most likely find the ad id number and then contact the Police and get them to contact Kijiji.
Of course only if you want....
I will look up his email on our site to see if he has used it. Thanks for the heads up!

To get a hold of this Gift Cards he must have used a cheap method at the cash register to generate it and input whatever amount he wanted. Once he had the card, he would have a few days until HBC Loss Prevention would discover it. But knowing what I know about retail Loss Prevention, they wait for the culprit to accumulate a certain number or value of cards before taking them down, for evidence purposes. So seeing how the OP says it ceased to work immediately, HBC Loss Prevention must be on to Mr. Hayman and will deal with him. If it isn't him generating these cards, whoever it is will get caught too as the OP has a card with a barcode number with which they can back trace the origin.
OP should definitely follow up with Kijiji as others have stated and contact local authorities. Mr. Hayman should hide his ass, or if he's lucky, disassociate with whoever provided him with these faulty cards.
