BEWARE - King Kitchen's Asian Buffet @ WOODBINE/HWY 7
BEWARE - King Kitchen's Asian Buffet @ WOODBINE/HWY 7 - poor service, junk food and add 18% gratuity to the bill without telling the customer.
I bought the online voucher for $13 lunch for 2 people because I thought it was a deal. After we went there for lunch on 11/1/2011, it was a ripoff. It was like I paid for the regular price by getting poor service and junk food. Their food selection was very limited. The quality of the food was horrendous. Food was very greasy and cold. If any of you bought the online voucher, you should ask that website for full refund.
We spent $27.64 for lunch @ King Kitchen (2 adults, a 3 years old and a 1 year old children). Besides I paid $13 for the online voucher, I still had to pay $14.64 in cash @ King Kitchen. King Kitchen forced me to pay them 18% gratuity by without telling me that they added $5 to the bill. I still gave them $2 gratuity even though the waiter didn't provide me any services. Later I felt I was overpaid, I had the waiter to refund $2 after I got the answer from him that he added the gratuity to the bill.
$6.00 two children
$3.64 HST ($22 two adults +$6 two children )
$5.00 gratuity
-------------------
$14.64 paid in cash (King Kitchen only accepts cash for this deal and won't provide you a receipt)
$13.00 paid for the online voucher
-------------------
$27.64 total amount spent
This website has some bad reviews http://www.yelp.ca/biz/kings-kitchen-buffet-markham (I wish I read them early, so I wouldn't go to this King Kithchen for lunch).

Can you please elaborate on that. What kind (how many) of selections were there. Was everything cold, or some?
Thanks.

I have been there and paid full price before. Food is just ok. I would not pay full price again. They have many different types of asian food. They have many kind of food but nothing really stand out. The salad bar sucks. The sushi is pretty cheap since they don't put the fishes out fast enough and they mixed cucumber with the seaweed. I also bought the group deals. Well for < $20 (13 + tips + tax) for 2 to buffet it is pretty good.

Sure. They have some dim sum such as deep fried sesame ball, steamed sticky rice in lotus leaf, pan fried stuffed green pepper with minced shrimp, shrimp dumpling, pork dumpling, steamed chicken feet, steamed ribs and yellow bun; some chinese food such as chow mein, ho fen, fried rice, bok choy, perna viridis in black bean sauce (half cooked), fried pork, fish with mixed vegetable, deep fried tofu, meat ball, deep fried sweet potato and egg roll; some sushi such as cucumber sushi, salmon sushi and crab meat suski; dessert such as jelly, cheese cake, coffee cake, cream cake, rice pudding, pink cream in the small cup; some salads; fuirts such as honeydew, kiwi, and orange. Most of the foods are cold.
I believe that they buy those dim sum from the supermarket so dim sum must be not freshly made, with a lot of MSG. We were very thirsty after we finished our lunches there.

We went there for mother's day when it first opened and it sucked... places like this will only go downhill from when they open, so if they sucked on opening days, imagine what will it be now.
I saw the group deal too but I didn't buy it knowing I will not go back again.

Is this the japanese sushi place or something different in the No Frills plaza near the One's?

I actually rant about this place in the food sub-forum in rfd. The place is outright piece of sh*t. The food ain't that great and the selection is minimal considering how big the place is.
this place is close to costco i think.

That's pretty sneaky of them. If the service was poor, I would have left without leaving a tip, regardless of whether it was added in or not.

They only accept cash. I didn't know they added the tip on my bill when I paid them. I should have asked them to refund my $5 tip too when I asked them to refund my extra $2 tip.

I was confused for a moment when I read this because I recall having been to a place with the same name (and in Markham too). Actually the place I was thinking about is called "The King's Kitchen", on Hwy 48 just past 16th Ave (great food BTW).

Just in case you're considering eating at "The King's Kitchen", be assured that these two places are not one and the same!

Me and my family went today. I don't know what what the negative reviews are about. The food is not the best in the world but hey, it's a buffet. I'd say the food is more than adequate. There was no shortage of food as the kitchen kept up with demand.
Yes they added tip on the bill. It's ok. It wasn't the 18% the OP talked about. For 4 people we were charged $6 tip which is reasonable.
All in all, it was a positive experience. If you're expecting to eat fresh sashimi and world class cuisine, you shouldn't be looking at a buffet to begin with. With this deal, you'll more than get your money's worth.
