Birth Certificate, I was absolutely amazed how fast...if you fill out online I think it costs $25 they guarantee you will have the document within 1 week and if not you get your money back. We applied for ours on a Sunday night and it was delivered via FedEX Tuesday night. Contact them and ask for the money back if it has been more than 1 week, their website guarantee's it in 1 week at the end of the application process. SIN card took several weeks, to receive the actual card but when you apply you are given your number to use in the interim. They got the spelling on the card wrong so it took even longer to get the physical card but we had the number immediately upon applying. You do not need anything other than to file the record of birth to receive the $100 monthly from the gov't.

Birth Certificate/SIN/Passport & other legal stuff - how long does it take???
So our little one is 2 months old now
Still waiting for:
Birth Certificate
SIN
What was the wait time for parents elsewhere?
(without the birth certificate and SIN, we cant apply for a passport, open a RESP account or take advantage of the $100/month "beer & popcorn"...i mean, DIAPER money.
Mat Leave & Employment Insurance (EI)
Definitely submit your applications online! We were delayed a bit because I sent in a copy of the ROE (record of employment) instead of the original...but after about 6 wks, there's FINALLY EI money coming in
Health Card
Hospital gives you a temporary paper health card; we got the actual card about 2 weeks ago as well._______________

Are you sure about the diaper money? I got that before I got the birth certificate. I wasn't in any hurry, but the order I got things were, $100 diaper money, birth registry, birth certificate, SIN and then passport. Next month we're going on a cruise. :P

Birth certificate and SIN were super quick. I could have had a birth certificate the next day if I was willing to pay more to the registry, but 3 days was their normal delivery time and i'm a cheap bastard. SIN they give you when you go to the office and apply so you get the number the same day, it takes a week or 10 days for them to send you a card.

And it's been 5 weeks and we haven't got our birth certificate, although we got the health card this week._______________
Oh, I love your religion -- for the crazy. Virgin birth, water into wine -- It's, It's like Harry Potter but it causes genocide and bad folk music!

you get the uccb automatically, no forms to fill out, just fill out the one for child tax and this takes a while (around 3-4 months) but they back pay you. while for sin, you can get it right then and the card will come in a week time.
the health card in bc, it took around a or two month for it to arrive.

Hah! So I'm surfing around and came across the Universal Child Care Benefit site. I thought I'd post the links in here. Sorry, looks like its posted above also. Doh!
FAQ.The UCCB is designed to help Canadian families, as they try to balance work and family life, by supporting their child care choices through direct financial support. The UCCB is for children under the age of 6 years and is paid in instalments of $100 per month per child.

Depends on where you live?
Ontario has a new online system to do the birth registration, birth certificate and SIN all in one step. http://www.serviceontario.ca/newborn
It seems like the registration is the step that holds everything else up. As soon as it is processed, the birth certificate is in the mail. Doing it this way, it took 3 months to get my daughter's birth certificate. It took less than a week to get a replacement birth certificate for my older daughter - I think that they now have a "14-day or it's free" guarantee. For my 3-yr old, it took 10 months to get all 3 done! It's definitely an improvement.
UCC is applied for separately using the CTB form (whether you qualify or not, you still apply this way) and for us, took about 2 months to start which is not bad. I expected worse. You don't need a birth certificate to apply for the UCC for a newborn.
Hope this helps. I'm new to posting.

Just have a baby in Feb and I got my EI in 2 weeks, health card in about 3 or 4 weeks, $100 in 4 weeks, and still waiting for the birth certificate and SIN ( I applied online which I thought should be faster). I know someone whose baby was born in Nov 2006 (and applied in Dec) still hasn't got the birth certificate yet.
