There are various birth control methods. You & your partner have to choose depending on what is best for you both.
OCPs & condom is the best combination for young people.
After the age 40+ , the fertility rate drops significantly & you can use just condom
If you want to prevent a pregnancy for sure, vasectomy in men or tubal ligation in women is the best option.

As I know, IUD is a very effective method of contraception, especially for smokers aged 35 +.
But there are also some contraindications, e.g. pelvic inflammatory disease, any gynecologic infection –Active, recent or recurrent; allergy.

It’s better to get an advice for the health care specialist who will choose an appropriate contraception method for you based on your needs & health issues.
