maybe her background/wallpaper is a different resolution than her display settings?

Black Bar w/ New LCD Monitor
My sister's new(ish) LG L204WT(?) LCD monitor has just developed a black area all across the bottom 25% of her screen or so. It's just black. You can float various windows and icons in it and everything looks normal except for the fact that the background picture is gone in that area.
She has restarted her machine and it's still there. Anyone have any ideas what may be wrong? Her computer seems to work fine in all other aspects. Thanks.

No, it's been working fine for the past two weeks. That part of the background is just chopped off.
Your suggestion had me ask her to switch background pics and so she changed it to something else and it worked! Then, I had her switch it back to the original pic and everything's back to normal.
