What phone is on your account now ? If you have a non-smart phone this is a normal price as they will typically give you $50 off any phone when you get a data plan.

Do you have an account with Telus that's month to month or with less than 6 months remaining on the contract?

Newbie
whats the best plan with data in total costs for telus right now?
I'm thinking of just waiting for moblicity to recevive the phone since they have a 30 dollar unlimited data talk and text going on right now. But then the phone might cost $650

No, I have it in my offers as well, and I've been a client since 2008.

Nothing with a 3-year term is a hot deal. Ever.

true, but while it is listed as $600, that is a significantly over inflated price. Both BB and Telus are overstating the relative value of the product. When you can buy an N4 for $300+ unlocked, this phones actual value is much much less than $600.
Kind of like Winners 'compare at'.
No this isn't just a troll with no point. Albeit, it's a small point, and I hate all the 'wait for X' advice, but really, once this phone is out and in use and initial spike in demand is over, the actual price of it should drop both on the buy out price, and contract requirements.
Just saying, I guess.

Does the buy out price EVER drop on BBs?

ya. seriously. some people are just stupid.
When the termination fee is simply the subsidy + $50, there is no harm signing a contract to get a subsidized phone. For this deal, you are obviously an existing customer anyway so why not get some benefit from paying every month? Unless you plan on cancelling immediately, why wouldn't you get the new phone? Even if you don't use it, you could sell it.
Example:
Buy the phone outright for $650 at Telus = $734.50 after tax
Compared to this deal
$100 on 3 year contract = $113 after tax
Device subsidy of $550 which reduces by $15.30 per month ($551/36)
Assume you cancel 1 month later, the cost of your phone is $113 + termination fee - $50 bill credit = $113 + ($550+$50-15.30)*1.13 - $50 = $723.71
This means after the first month you are already ahead. After each subsequent month, you are going to save even more.
Now, let's assume you bought it at Koodo since they are selling it for $550.
After tax cost = $621.50. The difference is $100 ($550 vs $650) which you have to make up with the subsidy.
Your break even is 6.5 months ($100 difference / $15.30 per month).
So if you cancel after 7 months, the phone would cost you $113 + termination fee - $50 bill credit = $113 + ($550+$50-15.30*7)*1.13 - $50 = $619.98
Every month after that makes the phone cheaper.

Why is there no information on the monthly minimum plan you have to be on or take...
it could be $0 on a 1 year but then you find out you have to spend $500 a month minimum..
