"Let no one be in any doubt that the rules of the games are changing," Blair told a news conference in London.
Never, EVER compare a war to a game. I wonder if there will be backlash in the press, but what a poor choice of words.
BTW, the article is about deporting people who propogate hate speech.

It's just a metaphore. I don't think it's that bad, but his stance on deporting troublemakers is great. I wouldn't mind him as our PM. Paul can kiss my ***** .

yah, the quote is not that bad...
it would have been really bad if Blair said:

When 40 people die, I just thought calling the situation a "game" was in really bad taste.

I have no problem with that either. The "game" in that phrase does not mean game.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked gman for this post.

I think it was in slightly bad taste, but for those politicians, it is effectively some chess game!

Some people take quotes too literally.
Would you rather have 'Rules of the game are changing' or some technical BS that would take forever to describe. It's a metaphor to dumb it down for everyone's benefit.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked Daemar for this post.
