Well, I bought some at that price a week ago.
I don't think that's a sale price, either. They do have more expensive minidiscs but to be totally honest, I have yet to have a problem with them.
My experience with the Minidisc format over the last 6 years has been that the physical format itself is rather robust and I have found that the build quality overall of the media to be rather decent. Even the "cheap" minidiscs seem to be rather well put together.
Since the disk isn't constantly spinning, (and with the latest HI-MD recorders, it spins even less frequently unless you're recording straight PCM) actual wear and tear on the media in rather minimal.
Seems to me (and please point me to somewhere that will correct me if I'm wrong) that the more expensive disks are more "prettier" rather than "sturdier".
