Everyone who did the trick, double check your rewards. I claimed the full 52,101 points, but somehow 'owe' -1143 points. I was directed to 3 people at bmorewards, and they just made up some reasoning, that maybe I "bought" points to pay for the remaining balance.virulent wrote: ↑ When you reserve a car (and I guess hotel too most likely) through BMO rewards you normally settle the balance with the rental company at arrival. So BMO does not pay them directly. They give you a statement credit for any used points.
If you then cancel through BMO, they charge you a fee. I assume they will reverse the credit and refund points too.
If you cancel through the rental company directly, BMO is none the wiser and won't reverse the credit and there's no cancellation fee.
It is an easy way to cash out points to a statement credit.
My car rental was 575.85 - 521.01 (points redeem) = 54.84 (that I pay when I go pick up my rental car).
Even if bmorewards did pay the remaining balance of $54.84, it should be -5484 points. They couldn't explain why it's -816 points (-1143 with 40% adjustment).
Date All items purchased Points Earned Points redeemed Points balance
Jan 15th 2018 40% Points Adjustment -327 0 -1143
Jan 2th 2018 BMO Rewards / BMO Récompenses -816 0 -816
Nov 17th 2017 Travel Booking Redemption 0 52,101 0

That -816 is weird.. Did you receive a refund on something else purchased on a previous statement? I assume refunds reverse any awarded points...jdu0ng wrote: ↑ Everyone who did the trick, double check your rewards. I claimed the full 52,101 points, but somehow 'owe' -1143 points. For me, that same time frame:
Jan 31st 2018 BMO Rewards Adj / Rajust récomp BMO 1,546 0 6,253
Jan 20th 2018 BMO Rewards / BMO Récompenses 4,707 0 4,707
Dec 26th 2017 Travel Booking Redemption 0 11,915 0
Similar story with the last few redemptions (April and July). I've never received negative points (lucky?), that or they were hidden because my "earned" is always positive. CC statements don't show much more..

I've posted about this before, but whenever you redeem points, you get a credit applied to your statement. The system treats any credit as a refund, and so you effectively lose points. In your case, you'd lose $521*3 = 1563 points and your -861 was likely a result of other things you purchased during that statement cycle that brought your -1563 points up a bit. As @virulent pointed out, if you make enough purchases to keep yourself in the positive range, you would never even notice unless you did a manual auditvirulent wrote: ↑

It's a really stupid system, but this happens with TD Rewards too

Hmm, my transactions are pretty clear. I stopped using the card in June 2017, redeemed for car rental in Nov 17th 2017 and that's about it.
Beginning of Jan 2018, the teller transferred my rewards credit from the credit card to chequing account, which triggered a "cash advance" of $5, I've immediate got the teller to reimburse back to the credit card. So it's only the car rental or this "cash advance" transaction that I could think of. But -816 is weird indeed.
I'm planning to just cancel this card, but I'm not sure if this -816 reward points will go to collection or not.

If I cancel the card before I use the lounge passes, are the passes void, or can I still use them until the expiry date?

Your credit card is on file for billing purposes with Priority Pass so exercise that option at your own peril.

I am interested in extending the insurance to past 21 days, not the medical as I am covered by work but for everything else (trip cancellation, delay, etc). Anyone know how much this would be for an 48 day trip? Are these limited to 21 days as well? Currently says not for sale...

I might be wrong, but from this document I see nothing about a 21 days coverage for trip cancellation or other coverage except for the medical insurance. You're better call, but I guess there is no limit, at least, not for 21 days.

Hello All,
I know that as of Aug BMO is no longer offering Priority Pass with the WE. I was wondering if the members who had PP still have their passes?
Thanks

This is covered in a different thread (linky) but yes there are reports of people still able to use PP passes past the Aug date (myself included) but YMMV

I cancelled my reservation through BMO and they charged me $25 plus tax.minimalist wrote: ↑Anyone?
They don’t have an option to pay now at the portal.
So my remaining points were still credited to my credit balance, not to my total point balance
Afterwards, I read the legal disclaimer and the disclaimer says you will get points credited 3 days before reservation date.
Perhaps someone can chime in with more data points.
