i = (originally: fuel injected) typically refers to a higher-than-base performance model now I think
L = long wheelbase... typically premium/luxury models with extra features
s = sports model....upgraded brakes/suspension
also....
e = economy engine
d = diesel engine
t = turbo charged engine (td = turbo diesel, tds = intercooled turbo diesel), or touring (earlier models)
c = coupe
M = monkey

Mar 12th, 2006 07:15 PM #6hmm you're probably right about gasoline... don't see any plain non-i models in the current lineup, could've swore they had them before though.

cic = Cabrio
M = M-Technic (not sure if the M actually stands for anything like AMG does?)
LE = Not available in North American, but a super stretch of the 7 series
S = Used to stand for the highest sport model (level 3, where everything is sport tuned). But the exact use got lost in translation since every e36 driver slapped the badge on there car.
P = Protection, light body armour (never badged on the car though)
Ti = Not sure if the T was for shortwheelbase or hatback. Anyone know?
