not gonna make it to NA so doesn't deserve its own thread, but here is the iX3, first bmw ev based on a core model, they can use this as a test run for the BEV tech used in the i4 and inext that's coming very soon...

- 80kwh battery pack, WLTP 285 miles so call it 200 in real world
- single motor at the rear, 282hp/295lbft
- assembled in china for export which is also a first, but no AWD likely reason behind no-go in NA

Nissan Ariya seems more interesting.

@alanbrenton wouldn't be impressed with this RWD single motor in a brick form with neither power or range ;)

Don't get me wrong. I am impressed with many vehicles that drive better and are fancier than the ones I own but not enough for me to pull the trigger on a new one. Maybe in a few years if my two BEV requirements are not met. :)

I still don't think Li-ion batteries will last as long as the engine on my Civic (17.5 years) without issues (time affects battery chemistry) but we'll find out in a couple of years with the 2011/12 Leaf's and Tesla's and other BEVs. What really matters is replacement cost and maybe these batteries will be cheaper in 2025.

Thoughts on a new 330i or M340i?

Also is it still better to lease with option to buy or better to buy the car? Just still iffy about maintenance issues and costs down the road once warranty has expired.

new M340i is a fantastic performer! Would say lease for these things but this month factory incentives aren't great and residuals are lower as well, bmw.ca shows 48% for 3y 16k per year lease, which is pretty poor. But understandably as 2021s are coming online soon, so shop around for a good dealer side discount to help offset that.

If you can afford it, M340i all the way!

BMW in general has under rated HP numbers right? Let’s say they advertise the M340i with 380/382hp but when dynoed stock its actually more.

Is this true?

@Booblehead and others, do you know how much is MSRP for extended warranty for a 2016 428 for 84 mos and 120k km?

Thanks in advance.

Should be around $4200 (+ 3 yrs/ + 40,000km)

If you need + 60,000 km, add another $400 to above

Do make sure your current factory warranty has not fully expired. If it’s expired, bmwfs may not allow you to buy their extended warranty or they will ask for a very comprehensive checkup on your car first before considering your application

Imo, spending nearly $5,000 on this is way too much. I suggest to set the same $ aside and dip into it when needed

If I buy a used 428 from a BMW dealership, they would gladly sell me BMW extended warranty for that car as long as the car’s warranty hasn’t expired yet, correct?

Yup

That would be extra of course. If you really want extended warranty, then negotiate around 20% -25% off ... after you have negotiated the car on its own.

What kind of cash/lease discounts are people getting for X3 m40i or M?
In Ottawa if it matters.

Honestly depends on dealership inventory. With COVID, all dealerships are low on inventory levels. I've noticed a spike in dealerships trying to hold back money .
Right now there aren't any incentives for X3 M40i or the M from BMW itself
Audi, BMW, Acura, JLR
