Book Recommendation - Understanding How Cars Work?
I have no clue on how a car works. I would like to read a detailed book on the inner workings of the car but in plain english. I came across a hardcover book a couple years back that was superb but forget its name. I thought it was Sam Julty "How Your Car Works" but that seems to have been published back in 1974 and the book i had seemed much newer. Cant say for sure.
I did see other books on the shelf but they seemed geared towards kids. I want something for adults but for a novice.
Any quality book recommendations? I'm off to check the local university for something.

Hey wonderful! Any ones stand out that i should purchase? Titles?
Im hoping for a book that delves into the problems and WHY the engineers came up with such a part. I'm trying to understand how it all comes together.

I don't think the boy digs into why engineers came up with such a part but breakdowns the internals.
Let me get home and check for you.

The Bosch automotive manual is a good place to start. Helps a lot though to have a solid background in math and physics (i.e. pre-university level).

I think you are talking about this book "Automotive Technology: A Systems Approach by Jack Erjavec". It comes in hard and soft copy. This is the one i used in high school when i was studing automotive.
