The debate will go on forever... but I think boxing should never be considered a sport to begin with...
RIP

Boxer Leavander Johnson dies from brain injury
Did anyone catch this fight ? I read that he took many shots to the head, poor guy. I love boxing but something like this is so tragic !

They knew what they were getting into... same goes for racecar drivers. They know the risk.

The difference bewteen racecar drivers, or some other more "extreme sports" (per se) and the boxers are that boxers are out to hit people. Stop opponent physically by pretty much hurting them. That alone is wrong and not the spirit of sports. But anyway, I'm not here to debate that. It's a sad fact that another boxer died of injury obtained during a fight...

Oh my god. I saw the highlights on TV but I didn't think he was messed up that bad.
Guy just kept taking them like a warrior, ref didn't know when to step in and stop the fight which was being dominated by his opponent.

Sep 23rd, 2005 02:49 PM #6The same logic applies for putting all wresting threads in the Entertainment Forum - not Sports - why pro wrestling threads are in the Sports Forum is beyond me - pro wresting is not a sport IMHO

maybe they should make headgear manditory now for pro boxing. but i doubt this will ever happen because boxing is to mocho of a sport and the headgear is what seperates the amauters from the pros. (and of course maybe skill lelvel)

RIP Leavander Johnson.
You made your dream of becoming a champion... and died in the ring defending your title...
(on a side note, the ref didn't do his job. The corner men didn't do their job. I would also blame Leavander, but...)

They are a sport in the way that they have tremendous athletes. Prowrestling needs it's own Sports Entertainment forum.
