I'm looking for a 42" lcd (brand name: Samsung, Sony, etc.), for less than $400. Already seeing 40" TVs in this range from Haeir and even Toshiba so hoping this won't be too difficult.

On Cyber Monday, I bought a TV from Sears.ca and they didn't charge me the EcoFee, while they were charging it at TheSource, BB and FS (same TV). Saved $42.50 +tax. If you see a TV that is on sale at a few locations, consider checking out at Sears.ca, you might be lucky too (plus 2% cash-back at GCR).

I wouldn't expect any high-end models to go on crazy sale. Stores generally try to unload all lower-end models. We bought our TV in early December a couple of years ago. A salesperson at the store gave us a really good deal, and mentioned that our high-end model will not go on sale anyway. Checked boxing day flyer that year, and what the guy said was true. So if someone is looking at higher-end TV - i.e. Panasonic VT/GT, Sony NX, etc - then might as well go to the stores now and negotiate with them to avoid disappointment and crazy line-ups.
