Brazilian president will bore hole through Amazon rainforest

He said he will open a highway through the rainforest and open it to mining operations.
He said his daughter was a mistake and that he was glad he had mostly sons.
He also said his sons won't be gay because they were "taught well".

How can Brazilians elect an idiot like that?

Our son lives in Brazil with his Brazilian wife. They are appalled at the outcome of this election, and may move back to Canada. People in the favellas and the rainforest will die because of this president's policies, and the environmental consequences are dire. Worried Face

I think it's the most terrible and cocky thing any A-hole could do for the country and the world. This dude knows nothing but military from which his background is, and he sounds like he doesn't give a rat's @*# who he affects. Our planet is screwed because we have all these leaders we have to elect, who can ruin everything by rewriting all the laws.

Why would Brazilians even elect this guy? I hope he falls over and cracks his skull open.

unfortunately, the trend in the world right now is shifting towards electing retrograde conservatives, who are appealing the ignorant masses (trump, doug ford,...)

pssst. World (Or Canada) exists beyond borders of Toronto. Or Ontario, you know that right? And there is more in world outside US. And similar idiots also elected Justin Trudeau. Winking Face Or Idiot Macron.

I've said it for years; Boomers are getting old and crazy and will destroy the world before they go because they don't care what happens after they're gone. This is just another entry on a long list of examples.
Could HAVE, not could OF. What does 'could of' even mean?

He's a great leader. And it's threads like this, why people like him get elected.

And I hope he keeps his promises on this front.

It's the natural swing. Their last leftist president Dilma ruined a fast growing economy with stupid socialist policies, was involved in huge corruption scandals (Odebrecht, Petrobras) thus people swung to the right.

If the dumb socialists would stop pushing so hard to the left and ruining things, people wouldn't have to vote so far to the right to want to fix them.

Keep things centre-right and everything will work fine, but stupid socialists keep pushing harder left so you will always have these swings.

Overall, I'm not a fan of his. But mining is necessary. If you can't grow it, you have to mine it.

Conversely, can't you also blame the extreme swings to the right for why far-left candidates get leverage? Or is your position to be hypocritical?

Huge pendulum swing to the left, then another to the right, it will balance in the middle eventually.

As someone has already alluded to, if the ignorant masses weren't electing prima donna drama teachers, we wouldn't have this reactionary swing to the other side.
