BSEL fsb/voltage mod for E5200

If your motherboard doesn't have fsb or voltage adjustment, you can use BSEL mod to cover up and/or connect pads on bottom of CPU to trick it to run different fsb or voltage.

I used aluminum foil and tiny bit of tape/glue to hold it. Its easily reversable and small voltage bump has not too much impact on temps.

So this changed vid from 1.225 to 1.325V and defualt fsb from 800 to 1066 (to expose more memory dividers). For other CPUs, there is a excel spreadsheet called "C2D Vmod calculator" which show which pads to connect.

The result? At default settings (1.225) got it up to about 3.15Ghz. Now, almost had 3.6Ghz stable. I'm now running comfortably at 3.5Ghz.

Several problems:
1. pads are tiny - and pieces of aluminum foil about size of mechanical pencil lead
2. 1066 fsb mod didnt work. In fact system doesnt even POST with it.
3. this E5200 fails to POST with >310 fsb even with 8x multiplier.. fsb wall?

Be careful as a slip could short and send your CPU to cpu-heaven. I did the same sort of thing back in the day with the wire trick for athlon-xp cpus were the motherboard didn't have the correct multipliers for higher speeds, i think i recall i used spare ide wires "spliced" at the time. Well e5200 are only priced at $90 nowadays so it's not much of a gamble. -sg

have you tried a graphite pencil? I recall they used to use pencil trick to mod older AMD chips.

The only thing I've done remotely is using the wire trick for the older Tualatin CPU ..it's the same idea as what you are doing cept I stick a thin wire to the sockets to connect the pins.

That's some pretty dangerous mod if the piece of foil slips a tiny bit who knows what would happen.

You'd need the hands of a surgeon to cut a piece of foil 1mmx3mm and a piece of tape around the same size, then place it probably on the chip.

I did this pretty easily using car window defogger repair kit ($10 from Partsource).

I'd never done anything like this but I found it easy to do. Here's just one of the guides I followed.

As mark said, BSEL mod not just for fun, but because most uber cheap motherboards dont have voltage adjustment, and some no FSB adjustment at all. BSEL FSB mod tricks non-Gigabyte motherboard to run at FSB you "select" by connecting the pins.

Non $0 (free) solution like defogger or circuit writer defeat purpose of getting very inexpensive motherboard.
