Hi All:
My wife and I sort of have this bubble tea addiction lols :-P. We often find ourselves accumulating many bubble tea cups (description below) over the course of the month.
We are wondering whether if it is something that can be recycled? Furthermore, if it can be recycled, is this something we can throw into the blue bin or something we have to bring to the recycling centre?
The description is
- Recycle 5 Symbol on the cup
- Clear Plastic on cup and lid
- Plastic Film covering (heat contact? not sure whether if that is a proper description)
- Straw (unmarked recycle symbol
Thank you for the replies in advance Please let me know.
Cheers,
acetace

They are in Vancouver, should be in Toronto as well, the symbol #5 is quite common. The think the ink burns off, it can't be recycled... Straws are most likely non-recyclable from city pick up since they do not have a number, but can be through other programs.

If it has the #5 symbol it should be recyclable in the blue box but the plastic film sounds like it should be removed and put in the garbage.

Toronto:

Top Plastic ‘Bin Sins’
These items do not go in recycling:
Clear plastic ‘clamshells’
Plastic drinking cups, lids, straws
Clear and opaque entree and takeout food containers, lids
Plastic blister packs
Toys
Cassettes, CDs and DVDs
Plastic pails, plastic paint pails (with metal handles)
Plastic over-wrap on pop/water carton
I dont know why though ...

The description isn't exact but in Markham it says 'Bottles - Glass Or Plastic That Once Contained Drink' belong in the blue bin recycling box. I would assume the bubble tea cups are similar?
