Budget Video Card

Need some advise on a budget video card for my 9 year old's computer. Its an older computer running an AMD phenom x945 3.00Ghz and an 275 GTX card. SSD and 8GB of Ram.

He wants to try WoW but the current card is not supported.

i've seen used gtx 970 for around $130-150.
Or gtx 1060 for $200.
Your CPU would most likely bottleneck for those cards.

I didn't want to go used. Would this be an improvement on the GTX275? Its a 1030 OC for 119.00
For reference, here's a rough GPU performance ranking: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gp ... ,4388.html

The 1030 is barely an upgrade compared to your 9 year old GTX 275. Budget cards typically offer bad value and even more so when purchased new. That's why so many of us recommend used mid-range models from the previous 1-2 generations.

Just avoid the 1030, it's pretty terrible. You're better off with a 4GB RX 560 card at ~$150, or even a 2GB RX 550 if you need to save another $25.

But like someone said already, you're going to be CPU bottlenecked. Especially since WoW is much more CPU dependent than most games.

Go used and buy a GTX 960 or GTX 970. A used GTX 970 for $130 would outperform by a huuuge margin EVERYTHING new at that price point.
