Builder places electrical switch in closet

I am building a house and it is near completion, when checking on it, I noticed that there is a wall switch in the main floor closet. I am not sure why it is there as I did not ask for it and I have asked the builder about it, however they have not responded yet. Is there any re-course I can do about this? Can I get any type of refund or argue on any financial position to the price of the home? Any one have a similar situation, I dont like the fact that I have a switch in a closet. Looks like an error on there part.

I'm sure it's there for a reason, don't worry about it and wait until your builder tells you what it's for

...and when your wife nags at you b/c the closet is too dark, you can install a light for her.

It's just a switch.....wait for the builder to respond.

Usually it's for the electrical socket outside above your front door. So you can plug in Christmas lights and turn them on/off.

I gather you have not purchased a new home before. Sadly, you'll find out soon enough that they don't care and if that's all that is wrong (or right) then consider yourself lucky. Search some of the posts in this forum and you will see how helpful builders are to their customers upon purchasing. As the other posters have said, wait and see what this is? Maybe it's a switch for a light in the closet as 3weddings had suggested?

I'm pretty sure this is what it's for, you should be happy the builder included this feature

I have switch in the front. Could not figure out why it is there? Checked all the lights and power outlets.

I have 2 places with switches in a closet. One is a laundry closet with a light in it. The other, as mentioned, is for an outdoor outlet used for Christmas lights.

Look for an outlet up high on your soffits. Its a nice feature. I guess they hide them in the closet as they are only used a few months of the year. I replaced my switch with a timer:


this is probably being done as per the plan/drawings for the house, so I don't think they would offer you any kind of refund. If they haven't done all of the drywalling and whatnot yet, it would be a small job to have the switch moved if it really bothers you.
