that's not a shelf, it's a countertop.
if you just want a shelf, it's easy. screw supports into the wall at either end, and put a piece of wood on top of it.

Building shelf above washer/dryer
Folks,
I want to build a shelf like this above my new front loading washer/dryer. How hard is this to do?
Maybe with some shelving in between the gap between the washer and dryer too.
Any thoughts on this - has someone tried this before?

you can buy pre-fab countertops like that at home depot or rona. Will be easy to install.

Pre-cut counter top, angle brackets, 2" screws into studs. Just make sure you use a level.
