Ouch that really sucks, point of advice is to never deal with doubt. It's your money or product being transferred, so to be fully confident, you should ask questions until you're satisfied and enough information to reclaim a loss.

Although I would never EVER send a stranger a product without first getting payment (heck, I don't even do that on World of Warcraft!!), but if anyone stalled on the payment, I would make sure they understood that it is unacceptable. I mean, really understood.
A friendly (no sarcasm) visit to him with a handful of fairly large friends usually does the trick.
