Not surprising, in addition to all the stuff people hated him for during his first term, add to that the pathetic response to Katrina, a wholely unsuitable Supreme Court nominee, and a key aide being indicted in the Wilson (BTW: apparently Valerie Plume goes by her husband's surname.. dunno why the media doesn't respect this..) case..

Time for an orange alert and maybe they should bomb some people.
That does wonders for their polls!_______________

Maybe it's just me, and I do think he is stupid, but I don't think he is so stupid that he would actually want somebody like her to be on the Supreme Court. It's going to be called a "conspiracy" theory, but personally I think it's just good tactics.
1.) Nominate somebody that is extremely under qualified for the job, but has somewhat of a centrist perspective.
2.) Have her go through the process, and then withdraw her own name under a guise of not wanting to damage the president
3.) Nominate your real candidate who is very right, and will take a lot of criticism from the dems.
4.) Fall back on the excuse that your original candidate was centre and you didn't like her, that you criticized her for being unqualified, while this new nominee has more expense then any other candidate in the last 70 years.
5.) Extreme right nominee gets through._______________

Well I'm glad I'm not an American woman who's going to have to contend with Scala, Ailto and all those other conservatives for control of their bodies, etc in the forseeable future.

Bush isn't that smart.
Although I give you creativity points were trying to figure him out, you're giving him too much credit.
I'm sure it went something like this...
1. Little Bushy see opening on big court. Me want to flex muscle more, bombing Iraq no fun no more
2. Little Bushy have great idea. Me put close, stupid friend in big court. Me win all court decisions forever
That's about as deep as Bush is going to get.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked fanaticalLEAFfan for this post.

I'm not sure why that's such a bad rating either. Considering that half of the country didn't vote for him to start with, nor will they vote republican in the next election if Bush were to solve world peace and eliminate famine.

Approval is somewhat different than the percentage of votes he got. Once he is into power people vote based on the job he has been doing. After 9/11 I believe it was soaring around 80%+
When Bush was elected to this second term it was largley thought he would use it is a chance to make his place in presidential history through all the good things he would do, it seems now he can't do anything right though.LOG IN TO THANK No one has yet thanked Ziggy007 for this post.

Finally, the rest of the country is finally figuring out that this guy and his cronies are really really bad for the country.
I can't even name one thing this President has done to make the country a better place. He's whipped up everybody into an air of fear, he's isolated the country from its international community, he's driven the economy down, he's trying to ruin all sorts of government programs (ie. social security) all the while giving grants to big business.
Truly, the worst president in recent memory._______________

Hmm.. that's possible (but it would involve Bush being a lot smarter than many people give him credit for!).
But really.. Democrats nominate left-wing candidates, Republicans nominate right-wing candidates.. assuming they get the same number of nominations, it'll all balance out in the end.. better to have a diverse set of viewpoints on the top court.. (then again, I'm speaking as someone who really won't be affected in any way by the rulings of the US court..)
Personally, I thought he was going to nominate Alberto Gonzales.._______________

Considering the crap he has pulled I think 37% is amazing. He has some mad skillz.

I question the intelligence of those who like Bush more than Bush himself.
