Buy a computer from Free geek or wait for a RFD deal? (Vancouver)

Hi guys,

I was thinking about buying a cheapo computer for a while until I can save up for a computer to build later in the year (Zen+) and was debating what to get. Here in Vancouver FreeGeek sells used computers for pretty good deals, but I was wondering if RFD'ers thought I could find a better deal if I just wait here looking around hot deals. What do you guys think?

Here are the Free Geek prices. I'd proabably get an i7 off them. Can get it for under $300.

Freegeek is pretty awesome, it's definitely a good price. That said, you should keep an eye on Craigslist right now with all the Meltdown/Spectre news. Just a guess, but I expect a lot of people will upgrade in light of it.

Also here's a ~$340 new build for comparison: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/vBfVqk

i7 is pretty vague, could be a 10 years old one.

Good idea I'll have a look on CL. Just worry about buying older parts on there for some reason.

And thanks for the comparison. How would the G4560 compare with an older i7?

True. I'll have to go in and see what they have I guess. Any suggestions on what I should not get for an i7 that would just be too old?
