1. Xbox supports DD5.1 in game in almost all its games.
If you have a DD5.1 setup then you're fooling yourself by not getting an xbox. It's a totally different ballgame when playing Rainbow Six 3, Halo 2, Ghost Recon, or any racing game. In the shooting games, you can perfectly pinpoint where enemies are through the amazing 5.1 sound. In racing games, you can distinctly hear different engines and determine when someone is coming up behind you. In Halo 2 and Rainbow Six 3, when playing on Xbox Live even when talking with other people online is in DD5.1. If I one of my friends is to my right in the game, his voice will come out of the right side when he talks to me.
2. HDTV 1080i support.
If you have an HDTV set then nuff said.
3. Mods.
If you do not plan on making use of Xbox Live then you should mod your xbox. With a mod chip and larger hard drive, you can basically turn your xbox into a multi media centre. You can watch movies and listen to sound in ALL formats. All you need to do is run the latest Xbox Media Centre and your all set. I download a lot from my PC and with Xbox Media Centre and a wireless bridge connected to the Xbox, I can browse shared drives from my PC and watch the shows I download through my Home Theatre system. Watching them on HDTV with DD5.1 sound is definitely a lot better than on my 19" LCD. Another big plus with a modded xbox is Emulators. I have NES, SNES, MAME, Genesis, Ultra 64, etc running on my xbox.
4. Xbox Live.
I have been on Xbox Live ever since it started and have been playing every week with my friends and it definitely beats playing on your own.
Oh yeah, why not get both? They're basically giving the GC away anyways. But remember, with the price of the GC and PS2, you have to add in Memory card otherwise you won't be able to save anything. You'll never have to worry about that with the Xbox.

I thought ca1n was asking the question.
Can your dvd player play DivX, Xvid, MKV, RM, RMVB, MPG, etc? And extract the stereo sound to output as DD5.1? Connect to the internet and listen to stations on Shoutcast or watch TV through the net? I'm just informing ca1n the benefits of the Xbox and not trying to start another old dumbass console war in which kiddies seem to enjoy. It's getting old and tiring and not worth my time.

Definitely go with whichever console has the games you're looking for! (for me, that's Gamecube all the way!

Feb 7th, 2005 01:04 PM #23No Square/Enix is firmly on Sony's side. They did a crappy Final Fantasy Chronicles for the GC (which REQUIRED you to have 3 GBA plus a link cable for each) for co-op play. Added nothing to the game IMHO.
