Buying foreign (specifically Japan) equities in TD Waterhouse?
I heard HSBC Investdirect has this option. If Waterhouse doesn't have it, then I have to look for another option. Can anyone chime into this in regards to recommendations?

TDW has it ...
TD Waterhouse does have it (or at least they did as of ~ 10 months ago) - however it's not a cheap alternative, so unless you're making sizable purchases you're probably not going to like their terms.
It's done via calling the broker, there's no way to do it online via WebBroker. I vaguely remember that the cost was somewhere around $165 - 175 per transaction range.

TD Waterhouse can do it, but you have to call to do it, and they charge commission based on the value of trade. I believe the minimum is around $70 ~ $80, but can go up to $200 ~ $300 per trade. All depends on the value of the trade.
I don't know how much HSBC charges, but update us when you find out.

Both Td Waterhouse and HSBC Invest Direct will do it, but as mentioned in previous poster TD will charge around $200.
Based on experience I was able to buy a Chinese stock at HSBC for only $60 commission, the catch is you have to purchase a minimum of 500 shares.
Questrade charges around $125 commission but I am not sure if they have minimum purchase requirement.
