ByLaw question, are you required to shovel your sidewalk?

I'm curious, are you required to shovel snow off ur sidewalk in the city you live in? If so, can you provide me a link to the bylaw? Thanks.

IIRC If someone slips in the sidewalk of your house due to ice/snow, they can sue you since it is your responsibility to shovel the sidewalk.

Found a link (search through google - though it says etobicoke I believe it still applies to all other municiplities)

can't find it anymore, but good to know that whenever they cite us on 267-03 they aren't jsut trying to scare us, it's a real by-law

http://www.city.toronto.on.ca/faq/seniors.htm

"The vast majority of sidewalks in the former communities of Etobicoke, North York and Scarborough, many sidewalks in East York and York, and some sidewalks in Toronto are cleared of snow by mechanical ploughing within 36 hours if the accumulation is greater than 8 cm (approx. 3 in.)." -- not only for seniors, but for everyone

Basically it seems like only the old Toronto is not provided with sidewalk snow removal.

AFAIK, its not a bylaw to force you to shovel your sidewalk, however, if you don't and someone slips, you get your @ss sued.

Yea I think that is right for Edm. Though the fine might be a bit more. But yea, by law you are required to shovel the snow from your sidewalks within 48 hours of the snowfall.

Might be 24 hours though, I can't rem anymore.

If someone falls on the sidewalk in front of your home, you're liable if you didn't shovel.

Beautiful Downtown S…
i am under the impression that there is a statute/law somewhere (old, preceding any bylaw ,that says something to the effect of "...government/municipality can't make you do their work...[clearing land owned by town] )
this being said,i try and keep my/their walks clear

Yeah, I've heard some mailmen will refuse to deliver if the sidewalk / driveway is cleared.
