why is that nengda tong says I have 2 hours and 20 minutes (140 minutes) for 5$ when used for a canada number. At 1c/min I should have minutes. Am I missing something?
Also does it allows you to setup speed dial no.

I just read through this entire thread, and I wasn't able to find an answer on this so I figured I'd ask:
I want to phone someone in Dominica (Caribbean island - not Dominican Republic) from my Markham Ontario land line to their Dominica Mobile phone, and, so far, the best card I've found for that (overall - minus all the hidden fees etc) is :
The FoneBuster Flat Card ($.18 /min - no fees)
But that $.18/ min rate only applies if I can use the Local Access Number for Toronto. If I can't (if Markham isn't counted as part of Toronto in this case - which I assume it probably isn't) then I'll have to use the "Canada/US - Toll-Free" number, and that apparently comes with extra fees attached to it.
So, I was wondering ; does anyone know if Markham or anywhere else in the GTA is actually included as part of the "Toronto" "Local Access Number" listing when that's the closest option shown, like it is with many of these Canadian Calling card Local Access number listings for Ontario?
For example, here's the entire Canada wide Local Access Number list for the FoneBuster Flat card as seen on the website http://thephonecardstore.ca/(iwwppei...?ProductID=58:
Calling From
Abbotsford
Banff, Barrie, Belleville, Brandon, Brantford
Calgary
Edmonton
Fort McMurray, Fredericton
Grand Prairie
Halifax
Hamilton, Hespeler
Kelowna, Kingston, Kitchener
Lethbridge
London
Medicine Hat , Montreal
Newmarket
Oshawa, Ottawa
Peterborough, Prince George
Quebec City
Red Deer
Sherbrooke, St. Catharines
Toronto
Vancouver, Victoria
Whistler, Windsor, Winnipeg
Canada/US - Toll-Free
I'll probably just end up using the 1010229 bell linked LD service, since it shows it's rates are only $.20 /minute to Dominica Mobiles, which seems like the best deal overall when accounting for ease of use. But, just for future reference, I'd like to know if the Toronto Local Access number for all of these calling cards will actually work for Markham based callers or not?

Is it long distance from Markham to Toronto. I don't think so. If it is not, you can use that number with no extra charges

You can call any local access number you want. The only limitation is which local access number is a local call for you from your landline. Is the Toronto number billed as a local call on your landline or will you be billed long-distance from your landline provider?
And you are right...using your Bell service is way less hassle for about the same price as this phone card you mention.

I opted for SmartReach - they have local numbers for most big cities and a toll-free for anywhere else for an extra 4 cents/minute.
I know it's not the cheapest, but I chose it for the following reasons:
1. It's still cheap: 1.9 cents/minute to Canada/USA
2. Your own # shows up on call display when you use local access numbers
3. It has an auto-refill feature and nice web portal with history, speed dial, etc.
4. The voice quality is excellent
5. There are no fees, and it NEVER expires
For those with a BlackBerry, I recommend BlaCaDa - available from AppWorld. This App stores all your calling card's local access numbers and does all the dialing for you. I love it, and combined with SmartReach I'm all setup with a cheap, reliable, non-expiring long-distance solution.

You can dial Toronto access number from Markham with no long diatnce charges. You can use any access number as long as you can dial it for free from your land line or cell phone. Normally phone number is local for your phone if can dial it directly without 1 (one) before the area code. For example 416-238-3305. If number is long distance, you will get the automated message telling you that number is long distance and you have to re-dial with 1 (one). For example 1-416-238-3305.
I also wanted to mention that many users have unlimited Canada North America long distance. In that case you can dial any Canadian or even US access number.
If you live in area where no local access number is available I would recommend CiCi Calling card. You can use toll-free access number - 1-866-312-5247; you will get the same rate as with any local access number (no extra fees). Otherwise use Fonebuster Flat with local access numbers.

I've stopped updating/following this thread because I've switched to using VOIP through voip.ms
Read the latest thread about voip.ms here.
Previously VOIP wasn't an option for me for a few reasons, one of which was because I needed to be able to phone out from a payphone. voip.ms now has DISA (Direct Inward System Access):

So now you can phone your voip # from a payphone, put in your PIN, and use it like a calling card with great (the best?) rates.
I can't think of a scenario where a calling card is better than voip.ms now.
