Calling Toronto from the Caribbean - How to do this cheaply?

I am going on a Caribbean cruise and want to call home daily and would like to know what is the cheapest way to do so.

The places I will be calling from are:

Florida
Princess Cays
St. Thomas
Antigua
St. Lucia
Barbados
St. Kitts

Thanks

cell phone travel pack, or use hotspots and a messenger program. there were free wifi in a lot of the Caribbean islands I visited.

in the US you can get a calling card from 7-11, when I was florida I paid 5 bucks and got like 8 hours or something silly, I just use a payphone or hotel phone to call the calling card number for Canada.

WhatsApp and Skype on wifi should work in most places, some of the smaller islands the quality may not be as good though.

Update: I will use an old android phone with freetone to get free LD calling. Is there an app that shows you where the free wifi spots are in the Caribbean at the following locations:

Florida
Princess Cays
St. Thomas
Antigua
St. Lucia
Barbados
St. Kitts

Do the following in every country you visit :

Get a local SIM card with at least 1-2GB of data and use any app to contact relatives. Skype, Whatsapp etc. Your phone should be unlocked in order to use other providers.

If you need people to stay in touch with you via a phone number then use Fongo or preferably a reliable VOIP provider such as VOIP.ms . This allows you to "carry" your local phone number with you around the world for free or almost. There are no "long distance charges" since you're using the internet ;)

OP could do that too but relying on free Wi-Fi is annoying and insecure.
