Have probably logged over 100 nights at provincial parks in SW ontario. I have spent several weekends at point farms as well. here's my rundown:
- nice private sites
- beach is not bad, but have to either drive or walk down 100+ steps
- no store onsite, have to hit the mini putt store just outside the gate
- Goderich is close for groceries/beer and there's a wal-mart and giant tiger
- nice little playground for kids (under 10)
- showers are clean (as are most prov. parks)
- they have a renovated barn where they have dances, movie nights etc thru the peak times in the summer
- some poison ivy, but not too bad.
- no biking trails to speak of other then the roads
- no hiking trails to speak of other than the walk to the barn
not a bad camp ground to get away for the weekend, but pretty boring after a couple days.
what are you camping in? tent, popup or travel trailer? Do you need/want electric site? Let me know, and I will recommend a few of my fav sites.
cheers

Camping Point Farms Provincial Park
The Pinery is fully booked for the days we want to go
camping this summer, and I noticed Point Farms Provincial
Park just north of the Pinery.
Has anyone camped at Point Farms or know anyone
who has?
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thank-you

Thanks Bubbadss!
We will be tent camping with no need of electrical hook-up.
Have you ever camped at Arrowhead?
If so is it a good park and what would
be the best area to camp in?
Thanks again foryour help!

thanks, bubbadss for the info
could you send me few of ur favourite sites?
(tent car camping)
GLALNP, Arrowhead is a nice park. It doesn't have too many hiking trails. One weekend is sufficent for Arrowhead.

We do Balsam Lake every year (at least 2 weekends - Cedar Grove area is our preferred). Awenda is very nice, however it is HUGE. We do 4 to 5 weekends every summer at different location with our focus around Lake Simcoe area.

Any suggestions for campgrounds around Lake simcoe area with more activities focussed to younger kids (less than 10 years old)?
Electric campsite as we are still relatively new to camping. thanks in advance.

as to the sites at point farms, I would look at the sites that are along the bluff 183 185 186 or 180 etc.
camped at arrowhead several times. First for a long weekend, then the next year a week. pretty good biking trails around the lake, and one behind the ski/snack shack. Gotta have a good mountain bike though.
fishing is not too bad on mayflower lake.
water is a wierd colour of brown (prolly the iron in the water). watch out for the snapping turtles that live under the dock. come out in the evening .
lots of good private sites, and hiking to the falls is cool too.
its one of my top 5 campgrounds. If you get bored, take the drive into algonquin its about 1 hour. there is a nice hike just outside the west gate of algonquin to a waterfall. I think it near oxtoungue lake.

Awenda is nice if you don't want to go to the beach. Parking is not close to the beach, so if you have a bunch of junk to take (i.e. kids toys, chairs etc) its quite a hike.
I agree, the campground is huge, nice biking trails. Other than that, its just ok... in my opinion.

Thanks again for your help!
You should start a thread Ask me anything about camping.
As for Arrowhead which campground would be best
Lumby North and South, East River or Roe? It doesn't
matter if it is radio free or not.
Thanks again!

If you are in a trailer and need hydro, go to east river area. anything down the 280-320 area is nice.
If you are not in need of hydro, there are a bunch of nice sites in the 338-350 area. Just beside the river and the falls and not too far from the bathrooms.
Never stayed in the lumby or roe area, but the roe area is closer to the beach.
one website you can check out is www.seeyoursite.ca where you can actually see pictures of campsites. They are adding more parks by the month.
cheers

I was camping there two summers ago when someone hurt themselves pretty badly jumping off the big rock on Gut lake. It looked pretty serious - they brought in a heli-vac. I'm really surprised the park doesn't try to shut this down - seems like a bit of a liability to them.
+1 for Grundy, though. It's a great park for anyone that's bringing their dog - one of the nicer dog beach areas I've seen.
Killbear is nice if you can get waterfront, but otherwise it's just too big/busy for me.Last edited by 902linger; Mar 13th, 2009 at 09:32 AM.
