can another flash trigger my sb-600 other then my camera??

Since the flash on my camera would trigger the wireless flash from the sb-600.. what if someone used a digital camera or another slr.. would they trigger my flash? and also.. what batteries do you guys recommend for an sb-600? rechargeables

i just called henry's and they have never carried used sb-600s before.. i guess i gotta refresh craigslist and kijiji everday day..

i went to downtown camera and bought the sb-600 for 249.99 plus tax.. henry's had it for 279.99..

what brand of batteries should i use with this?? i picked up a bunch of rayovac alkalines to test them out.. A friend recommended that I use sanyo eneloop rechargeables. What do you rfd'ers use?

nope. The Sb600 does not have a built in optical slave like the SB800. It can only be triggered by another camera if that other camera happens to be Nikon and its commander flash happens to be set on the same channels as yours. If it IS a Nikon, and their flash is set on TTL instead of commander, it still will not trigger the flash.

If you had a cheapie optical slave attached, then yes, any flash can trigger the camera.

I use a set of Eneloops for my SB600, I have gotten over 500 flashes out of a single charge, first 350 or so flashes have very quick refresh times as well.

Ha, wait another month or so and look me up and I may sell you my SB600... I'm looking to upgrade to a SB900 in the near future but I may keep the SB600 as a remote slave unit

Nah, not at full power and I should've specified that I squeezed 500 flashes outta them. Realistically, you're probably going to get around 300 to 350 on general use. By the mid-400's the refresh time was so long that it was getting annoying but I did not have a spare set so I just kept going.

I think Alkalines have the fastest cycle times but the Eneloops have been more then useful for my needs... I'm not doing wedding photography so I don't need to do crazy burst shooting. Fully charged, my Eneloops will give me cycle times of less then 1 second for the first 200 flashes and gradually increasing onwards.

For the record, I've tried burst shooting with the SB600 on my D300s sync'ed at 1/200 shutter speeds and did a 10-shot burst at ~7 fps and I was very happy with the results.

i mostly only use white top duracells, which are rebadged 'loops

In simple terms:

Eneloops and other rebrands that come pre-charged and have long shelf life:

---Decent battery capacity, but don't need to recharge before an event.

Other High Capacity batteries:
---Much better capacity resulting in more flashes being fired than Eneloops but horrible shelf life meaning you have to recharge them few hours before big event to have 100% capacity, otherwise the earlier you re-charge, the less capacity you will have on the actual event.
