Can Canadians rent cars from Costco.com?
Has anybody ever had trouble with an Alamo car rental booked through the american Costco (.com) site? It allowed me to book a rental car for Palm Springs at a great rate but the fine print says "Offer is valid for travel as specified, is valid for new bookings only and is available to Costco members residing in the United States."
I'm not sure if this is a new rule or not. Has anybody successfully picked up a rental car in the US booked through the .COM website? Does Alamo care that I don't reside in the US?

This is the quote of the terms right from the Costcotravel.com site for the Alamo rentals as an example:
■Some countries may convert coupon value into local currency. Void where prohibited. Alamo and Drive Happy are trademarks of Alamo Rent A Car. All other trademarks are the property of their respective owners. ©2011 Alamo Rent A Car. Any unused portion(s) of inclusions are nontransferable, nonrefundable and not redeemable for cash. Offer is valid for travel as specified, is valid for new bookings only and is available to Costco members residing in the United States. Travel purchases are not included in the Executive Membership annual 2% Reward program. Seasonal surcharges, availability, blackout dates and restrictions may apply. All prices are in U. S. dollars. Costco Travel disclaims liability for any inaccuracies or typographical errors.
That being said, I've rented thru the Costco.com website over a dozen times before and never had an issue. I wouldn't worry about it, just print up the page in case there is any issue getting the promo discount upon pickup or return.

I have used Costco several times no problems. Not once was I ever asked to show my membership card either. They don't always have the lowest rate however. You may want to check expedia.ca as well. What dates were you looking at and what size vehicle?

I've done it 6 times now no problems so far. It's always been Alamo so I can't comment on other agencies.

Done it but not exactly through Costco.com. Instead what I did was use the promo code by Costco.com and booked directly with Alamo. No issues.

I tried that, but the rate was not as low as the rate given right on costcotravel.com. It was about $50 more going through Alamo directly with the ID code AND the coupon code that Costco stated. I wonder why? So I would have to go through the Costco site even though it clearly makes you accept the terms and conditions agreeing that you live in the States. Which I don't.
Also, the Costco Canada car rental links are ridiculously higher! And only Avis and Budget. What's up with that?

I rented in September....no problems. Rate was cheaper than I could get through Priceline which rejected what I ended up paying.
