Can DVD/CD Player damages the discs??
I've recently watched Lord of the Rings (LEGIT COPY) with my PC DVD-Rom, but for some reason the discs are not loading properly anymore (it works fine for the first couple times). I've tried playing with other DVD players in the house, it skips skips a bit...Is it possible that the problem is caused by the DVD-ROM drive or is it just the disc that's screwed up in the first place (but for some odd reason it works fine for the first couple times)?
edit: i notice this is in the wrong forum, mod please move this to computer/electronics please. Thanks.

It's not possible for your DVD-Rom drive to damage the disc because the laser never physically makes contact with the disc.

yes, it is possible if the dvd drive is defective or if the disc is broken to begin with.
keep in mind that the disc is spinning at high speed so a little bit of damage on a disc can cause the disc to crack/shatter within the drive...
