I've done it before with a Panasonic phone. Be sure to get the wires right. My phone only had two, a red and a black. Some phones, though, have three or even four wires.

Can I use normal NiMH batteries for Uniden Phone?
My phone battery is almost dead, doesn't hold much charge anymore. It's Model BT-905, Nickel-Cadmium, 3.6V 600 mAh. I'm thinking of taking the battery out and just use 3 AA 2200 mAh NiMH batteries, will it work? should I just buy another battery pack? It's like $20 at walmart, and each AA only costs $2.

No... but you can try it out with older batteries first.

You can usually use NiMH on NiCD phones. The fear was that the NiCD recharger would over charge the nimh, damaging the battery with a slight risk of explosion.
In practise since a phone recharger charges so slowly, the only fear is that you might damage the batteries if you leave it charging too long.
You can get 1800 nimh's at walmart for $15, so I wouldnt worry about it.

should be fine to use NIMH. I switched the crappy nicd in my panasonic for the nimh and have no problems with charging. The battery life is far better than the nicd ever was. I saved the plastic wrapper from the original battery and used it to wrap everything tight again (skipped the soldering that way)

ebay $7 + $10 shipping + $20 custom fee + this + that .....
I will use 2200 mAh NiMH, hopefully it won't blow up
I also have a memorex 900 mhz phone, can I do the samething? use NiMH instead?_______________

I just replaced the NiCd batteries with NiMH. It is still charging and unusable.
I am a bit worried. Maybe I should just buy a replacement of the battery instead.

I replaced the nicd with nimh and confirmed working, took me couple hours to solder the copper wire to the battery properly, seems the solder i had can't stick to nickel surface easily.
