can someone commit identity theft w/ only a drivers license & cancelled credit card?

I lost my wallet but got it back with only some money, drivers license and credit card missing. i reported the credit card lost so its been cancelled and a new credit card with a new number isbeing sent to me. my health card was in the wallet but it was still in the wallet when i got it back (i still cancelled it and got a new health card w/new number). SIN was NOT lost, it was safely at home.

my question is should i bother reporting it to a credit union if they only have my DL and CC (which is cancelled)?

you might want to consult a professional but I was of the understanding that a driver's license number is enough to get more information and thus is a dangerous piece of info to lose.

that and you gotta wonder why someone would steal your driver's license if they weren't intending on using it to do something bad.

Hmm

Name
Address
Birth Day
Height/colors

Old Credit Card can be used as reference to apply for a new card...

so yes it can ... all they need is a Sin # and they are really set.

i assume it was some kid who wasn't 19 and needed an ID to go clubbing. I already reported my DL lost and got another one. I didn't file a report at the police station .

i got into the same predicament as you;
except i lost:
my driver's licence, my credit card, my health card, my SIN card, auto insurance, car ownership paper, and there is an actual huge list after these ones (but the ones i listed are the most important);

u do not need to go to the police station to file a report;
u only file a report IF you lost 1: Social Insurance Card 2: Passport 3: Citizenship 4: Birth Certificate

yes.
name/address/phone # = canada411

birth date = a call from frauder saying they're from *random company* telling you that your credit card information *lists credit card number* has been cancelled and he needs you to verify that youa re infact the person

Height/colors = not needed for online fraud... which is what matters

Why do they make it next to impossible to get a new SIN#? This seems to be a very prized commodity for thieves so make it more fluid and mitigate its importance. Some employers are really shady and could threaten you with misuse of your SIN#. Some businesses aren't above board, if you know what I mean.

i work at a cellular service provider and i can tell you that they can sign up for a phone plan with just your drivers license.
if the original sealed package has been opened in any way or form, it is NO LONGER BRAND NEW IN BOX!
if an item has been USED no matter how little, it is NOT new at all!

I know;
I went to the government building down at scarborough town center and asked if i could get a new SIN card cause I lost mine last week. They told me that it's not within their policy to do that unless someone committed fraud with my card. All I could do was get a replacement card with the same SIN #.

They did help me a bit by providing me with numbers I could call to notify that my card is lost so that they can closely monitor my activities :)

Although this is likely, you may only be half right.

I had a buddy in highschool that found a wallet and they guy actually looked like him. For many years he used the ID for smokes and booze.

However, he also did some more nefarious things though. The license was reported "lost" instead of stolen, and he actually managed to get the license back to "found" and working 100%.

You should report it to the police for sure. Trust me on this.

As for the credit thing, just to be safe I'd report it to the agencies. All they'll do is contact you personally if they think someone is seeking credit (either yourself or the person with your id)
