Can you help me increase Shaw's usenet speed?
My speeds are a bit slow. I should be getting somewhere to 7.5 Mbps but i'm only getting only 300 - 400 KB/s which is around 2-3 Mbps. Anyone how to increase speed?
Cheers!

Sorry, no one uses Usenet anymore except for low-key binary piracy.
You're better off with a paid Usenet service like Giganews or Easynews if you want speed and retention.

You'll never get the Shaw usenet to go any faster. They only provide it to you to read articles, not for downloading massive files. If you want to get files at your max speed, pay the $10 a month for a premium service.

Newbie
Actually, when telus disabled their usenet and shaws was in disarray they replaced it 3rd party news server, newsfarm.iad.highwinds-media.com. This server is speed capped so they are correct about that, the old trick of connecting to shaws calgary, victoria, edmonton and winnipeg server at the same time no longer works (You used to be able to get 4 times the speed by using all 4 servers), but this server has nearly the same completion as giganews or astraweb. The retention is a full 30 days which is 26 days better than shaw used to be. If you have to have more speed astranews will max out Nitro at 2.5 MB per second and that's megabytes, not bits, for far less money than giganews, but if you can handle waiting a little longer for whatever it is your downloading.....just stick with the shaw feed and don't pay extra.
IF you want to try the old multiserver trick, which I havent in a year, the names were
shawnews.ed.shawcable.net
shawnews.cg.shawcable.net
shawnews.gv.shawcable.net
and i forget the others, some used the same IP with different Domain names and you couldn't use them both then. I suspect that all of these redirect to the highwinds newsfarm now so multi server will be detected and you'll get the same speed as one server.
