Can you run into conflicts with 2 antivirus programs?

I'm wondering on my laptop since its the one that gets connected to networks the most, is it bad to have 2 antivirus programs. I've got AVG on my laptop right now but i'm wondering if i should also get the avira one that's on download.com as well.

Can they ever have a conflict when both are running?

You will DEFINITELY have a problem with two Anti-Virus programs running. Choose one and stick with it.

you really don't need more than one anti-virus. in fact i dont even use any at all on my various machines running vista 64 and windows 7 x64.

I use two at the same time, it works out. I tried even 3 + Defragmenting.

Having multiple anti-virus programs will cause each program to report virus' on your computer

When they scan, they will eventually find the signature file of the other and the virus signatures will set it off.

Besides, are you that paranoid? If you are, you shouldn't be using the internet.

All it will do is cause you grief.

More over head, each program will use up memory. False positives from the programs finding each other's virus signatures

I don't use anything on any of my computers. I just use common sense and format every 6 months to a year. I am sure some spyware sneaks in

I have been running 2 antivirus programs on my desktop for years now, so far no problem.

i had 2 antivirus' running for around half a year and then one of them starting having a conflict and i couldnt execute anything at all without my comp freezing. i tried many things but the only thing that worked was starting my comp up with one antivirus and it worked. so i would advise not to use 2 antivurus'
