Can you use the RRSP Home Buyers Plan on an RV?

I hijaaked a threat a few days back and got no response, but thought I would ask again.

If you're looking to buy an RV to live in permanently in the summer of next year (moving out of a rented apartment), would it be possible to put $20k into an RRSP in cash this year, then withdraw it as part of the HBP in June of next year, while pocketing the tax return in the meantime? The list of "qualifying homes" lists mobile homes, which I assume are similar enough to an RV? Just want to make sure this is a viable option.

I wouldn't say a mobile home is "similar enough" to an RV ....

No. RV's and boats are excluded from the program. You must purchase an actual home. They don't even allow you to purchase a tenancy in a house, but they do allow shared equities.

No, RVs don't qualify. My office has done many FTHBP wihtdrawals and you must fill in a permanent address. "RV on dad's driveway" doesn't work. Igt must be a physical home.

I don't think that would help the OP too much. Even though a park model trailer has wheels it is not an RV, cannot be towed without permits, etc. Some of them can, but I doubt those ones would be elligible. Since they are a trailer, they would need to have a licence plate. I don't see how they would allow anything with a licence plate to be considered a home for the purposes of the program (they deny RV's and boats for that reason)

Haha, no pun pardon neccessary, it's pretty ridiculous to begin with. For the Chris Farley fans out there, I'm gonna be livin in a vaaaaannn down by the river!!!!

I appreciate the responses from everyone though, I suppose there is a pretty big distinction between a mobile home with an actual address that doesn't move and an RV. While I understand the logic behind it, in a way it discriminates against the white trash segment of the population.

I will call the CRA as someone suggested just to make sure, but y'all have made me realize it is bending the rules if I only have the intention of living in the RV for the span of months, not as a lifetime abode.
