A friend has a 42 inch Samsung HD TV about 3 years old. She is with Rogers and has a HDTV cable box and as far as I can see the settings are correct. I checked to see that the cable box is setup for normal picture size, that the channel is broadcasting full screen HD, and that the TV is set to 16:9.
Best we can get is a picture with stripes on the top and bottom. We are using component video cables – I tired a HDMI cable and got a incompatible format error.

Format Error? What model is the Samsung? Just make sure the Rogers cable box is set to 720P.

Yes we're missing the needed clues... Is the full screen with bars top & bottom aspect correct? Are you watching a 16:9 image on a channel that is HD? Most afternoon broadcast is still 4:3 aspect even on the HD channels and broadcast as 16:9 aspect correct with black borders... a lot of movies are cinema widescreen and have black bars top & bottom on everyone's set. Does the TV have aspect or zoom corrections?

Make sure you selected the correct input device (rogers box) on the TV menu.

The other thing that I dislike about Roger's HD is that when changing over from HD to SD channels, you always have to hit the HD/Zoom button on the bottom right of the remote.
Don't forget that also!_______________
Cheers!
