Nope. China displaced Canada as the U.S's largest trading partner since 2015.
The user is obviously talking about US exports not total trade.

China has and the majority of that is on imports. Canada is still the U.S.'s largest trading partner when looking at exports from the U.S.

Export
* Canada 259.2
* Mexico 223.3
* China 116.7

Import
* China 461.1
* Mexico 289
* Canada 274.5

Total
* China 577.8
* Canada 533.7
* Mexico 512.2
* Japan 185.8

Really, the U.S.'s trade with Mexico and Canada is fairly even. There are far more counties where trade is significantly in favour of the other country.

Yeah but Xi rolled out the red carpet for the God Emperor on his visit, and now China is his best buddy. So he picks on Canada and Mexico which have fairly balanced trade numbers.

i cant see NAFTA falling apart due to all the US states who would oppose it. and congress has to authorize this, not trump, correct? trump cant do it alone.

I wish all this brinkmanship from the US and Canada was real and they totally scrapped NAFTA this year. The outcome of such break up: the US would repatriate a few industries from Canada and others would be moved to China, Canadian companies exporting to the US would be forced to become more competitive, Canada would get back all the peeps (and their families) currently working in the US with TN1 visas -- imagine all those Canadians bringing their wealth and know-how to Canada. A win-win situation for both, the US and Canada.

Our leader should have done the same. Instead JT was busy indirectly criticizing Trump. JT you're just not ready.

I'm guessing you mean no "Free trade" deals...which...Thank God!
Chinese investment in Canada amounts to only 2.6% while it is 47% in the US !

Bombardier has some Mexico manufacturing. If this happens, Toronto's definitely not getting their streetcars in the next decade.

Canada and Mexico can continue free trade agreement without America or Canada and Mexico can sign another free trade agreement.

First of all. This is what happens if the north American FREE TRADE agreement gets scrapped. We will automatically revert to the old agreement that was in place with some duties I believe. But scrapping NAFTA means our dollar will decline in value and make our exports cheaper. In the end, things will cancel out. Hell we might even benefit by becoming an even more attractive trading partner with the chinese and euro markets. Anything can happen. Hell, there was a time before NAFTA didn't exist...I believe it was 1993 or so. Most of us were alive back then. I was a 5 year old kid, new to canada but even I can recall that things were pretty good back then for us as well. With that said, screw trump and screw the US. I always felt NAFTA was a one sided deal that benefitted the US more than it did us. I mean, US corporations can actually sue the Canadian government if it tries to do things that go against their corporate interests. With that said, I'm drooling over the possibility of NAFTA being scrapped by trump. And we should negotiate for MUCH better terms or we don't sign anything, plain and simple. We can deal with the Chinese instead.
