Yup not surprised. Unfortunately the manufacturer always has disclaimers that it's your responsibility if the drive is damaged or lost during shipping and there is no coverage. I personally go with a dependable courier (usually FedEx) on most of my shipments, I've never trusted Canada Post.

CanadaPost lost my package, no coverage, nothing I can do?
long story short.. i sent my seagate hard drive back for RMA and now its lost by canada post. i called in and the rep told me they will try to locate it and if not then they will give me a call back
few days later, I recieve a call and they believe its lost and I should send in proof that I have coverage/insurance on the package for them to pay out anything..
I thought I bought coverage but when I looked at the reciept, it says coverage declined.
what can I do?
ps. shipped as regular parcel

CanadaPost works for me. It's cheap and I haven't had any issues with lost packages. The problem with your situation is that you didn't use a method of shipping with insurance. When I ship packages at the local CP location, they always go over the bill with me... pointing out the shipping options I used (insurance, signature, etc) and the tracking number. I guess they didn't confirm this with you?
In any case, the lost package is your problem. With no insurance you're not getting anything back.

I understand that Canada Post and other freight companies deal with thousands upon thousands of packags a day... but I always fail to understand how a package dissappears into thin air. A package sent whether insured or not should always be trackable.
My gut says someone saw that your package was not insured and therefore helped themselves to it._______________

Speaking of Canada Post, do any of you sometimes get important mail that's not even yours, or have had important mail that IS yours get sent to other addresses? Cuz it happens to me all the time... is there any way to complain, and would complaining fix my problem?

Sadly insurance within Canada costs extra, while for packages to the US have free insurance coverage up to $100 CDN and half the time, it's cheaper to ship to the States than it is within Canada.
Sorry to hear you got screwed over by Canada Post's lousy website (and those puny asterisks), but yeah, insurance must be paid additionally separately ($1-2) within Canada.

That is not true. All domestic services (Regular Parcel, Xpresspost, and Priority Next A.M.) include $100 of insurance.
Thats just it...thousands, THOUSANDS of packages is a major logistics headache. Some will be stolen, delivered to the wrong address, misplaced, etc.

Are you referring to the online feature? Yes, most forms of shipping printed online will have free insurance. I meant in person at the the post office. Whenever I go to send out anything within Canada, the postal worker always asks me if I want insurance (even if it's like less than $40 CDN) versus sending to the US, which is automatically covered in the shipping cost.
How could the OP have insurance if he said he didn't have any then? Your statement would make his problem impossible then.

That sucks. Nothing you can do.
Thats why whenever I send something, I always get insurance. I don't think it's that expensive per every $100? I also get tracking so I can stalk my package._______________

You have to declare the value for insurance. Neither domestic nor US shipments are "auto" insured. In this case it was declined.
The only service which may not include insurance at retail is Regular Parcel. I use an account, and believe the terms are different at a retail POS, with this service.Last edited by Kasakato; Apr 7th, 2009 at 07:05 AM.
