Cancun in 6 DAYS ....Any reccomendations?
gonna stay at the oasis playa. yea..i know it was hit hard by WILMA, but friends still wanted to go there..so ..taking a huge risk. Feb 16 ..paid around 1300.
So.. where to go? what to do? what to look out for? which clubs are good.
I've read up alot over the past couple of weeks, but i'll ask you guys too for any last thoughts.
Btw, what;s the cheapest way getting around? the local bus? what currency do they take? how much do you tip the maids? in pesos?

If you dont care about a beach, cancun is fine at the moment. Lots of work going on though. Some hotels more so then others. Cheapest way around town for one or two people is the bus. If you have more then two people i'd take a cab, cost a bit more, but its faster.
Us dollars work fine in mexico. I tip those that deserve it and go out of there way for me. Not usually the maids or bartenders.
Best places to go, couldnt tell you. Many of those I remember may not even be rebuilt yet. But after reading reviews you should be able to pick your own places.
We skiped cancun this year and went to Cuba. Looking forward to cancun next year though.

XCARET is a great ecological park. Spend the day there. Really enjoyed it. Should be able to book it right at your hotel lobby.

If you're considering going on excursions like Tulum or Xel-Ha both can be done in the same day. Been to Playa 2 times in the last yr (wasn't hit hard like Cancun was), both times were great...

I stayed at the Oasis Playa also and had a lot of fun there. Just remember if you dont like the food at the buffet you can always go to the beach bar/diner for burgers, fries nuggests.
Also note at the other Oasis / Oasis Grande they have foam parties. I dont member which night.
As someone mentioned Xcaret is a great place too see the local wild life its a eco theme park.
If you want to learn more about the myans. Go to Chi Chen Itza. It's the best place to see ruins.
As far as clubs are concerned go to Coco Bongos, Fat Tuesdays or Senior Frogs. (your hotel organizes nightly trips where you get unlimited booze. However I found this weird cuz its all inclusive resort)
when i went 2 years ago the bus cost 60 cents u.s. to ride. It's easy to take cuz cancun is basically one long street. Just jump on in the direction of downtown, when you're done partying go the opposite direction.
Shopping is pointless. There are no good deals on anything except maybe cigarettes. There are some deals in downtown Cancun but nothing special.
They got Papa Johns pizza everywhere and you can order it right to your hotel.

Basically, checkout the strip and what's available in Cancun when you arrive. All the clubs took a good schit kicking and probably wont be up before spring break. If it looks like gloom (probably will be), get out of town. Rent a car and go to Playa Del Carmen and maybe Cozumel too. You'll need to go on a ferry to go to Cozumel. In Playa checkout Senor Frogs and the Blue Parrot for clubbing. Thats the best you're gonna do right now unless u stay isolated in your resort. Sorry.
Otherwise, for non-partying, check out the other places including pyramids is where it's happening.

Also if you want to check out Playa Del Carmen, you don't need a car, you can take a bus there from the Main Bus station in Cancun. The ride is about an hour or so and is about $4 USD each way.
If you're looking for some cheap liquor, check out the Wal-Mart in Cancun. They have a huge selection of cheap booze there

I would have to echo the comments on Xel-ha, Telum, and Chichen Itza. I'd also add Coba...I actually preffered it to Chichen Itza. A group of about 14 people booked a catamaran tour (Fatcat) and we had a great time. We also hired a local to take us deep sea fishing. His fee...we had to pay for the beer and he got to keep everything we caught. It was a blast and a lot cheaper than paying for a tour!

I stayed at the RYU Palace Los Americas (new resort) last year in Cancun. It was amazing. If you can score a discount there you will enjoy.

All the "Palaces" are quite nice. Staying at the Palace also gives you the privilege to check out and enjoy food and drink at other Riu Properties.
