50 1.4 was $299 on boxing day
1.8 was $89
i would say this is cold
Bad deal. I think it was 299 or 279 on canon website during boxing week but was OOS fast

Personally I think boxing day prices are still 'relevant' given in some cases the sale just ended two weeks ago. Sometimes boxing day prices are also indicative of what you can expect to be the 'hot' price in the coming months.Quote:

Maybe in another month $100 can move up to warm again...but since we know that $90 is the new bottom price for this, that is the price that is now required to be hot.

Comparing to Boxing day or US deals isn't fair... cost of materials is always going up, so prices will usually be lower in the past, and the US is a cheaper market, but you also have to factor in shipping and possible duty.

At 399, I would rather pick up a used sigma 50 1.4 for a little more. Personally I would go for the sigma for better iq, faster focusing and better bokeh.
