Canon 70D - 6D - 7D-2 question

My Canon 40D died after 7 yrs of use.
I have an assortment of lens : Canon 10-18, 24-105, 70-300, Sigma 90 2.8 Macro and 430-2 flash. I also own an EOSM with the lens adapter. I like the EOSM but however not finding the images are sharper copared to the SLR. Now I need a new body for the holidays and some winter trips. I was hoping the 40 D to last another year or two and then replace it but it happened sooner.
My budget is about 1500-1700. I do not shoot that much video and usually shoot landscape, some kids sports and travel photography.
Thanks

6D - Good for low light and the "full frame look". For the most part you have a great set of lenses for upgrading to full frame. YOu'll have to sell your 10-18, and I'd recommend getting a prime or two but the 24-105, 70-300, Sigma 90 2.8 Macro are all great full frame cameras.

7D-2 - Great focusing system and above average low light (for a crop sensor, but not as good as 6D). This is a no brainer if you plan on doing a lot of sports/action/wildlife photography.

70D - Cheapest, and great video auto focus

If you get any of these this weekend make sure you pick up the 40mm f2.8 for $49.

When my 50D dies, I will surely go with 6D. I do a lot of portraits (mostly my family), and nothing can beat the DoF control of a full frame camera. And as others suggested, FF is great for landscape (also architecture etc - anything where great sharpness is important). 6D is not great for action though. But so i my 50D, so I won't see much difference there.

Out of the choices there (and considering that you are not into video), I would not choose the 70D and would opt for the 6D. The FF sensor from a 6D would have higher dynamic range (and possibly a tad more resolution) compared to 7D2 which is perfect for your landscape and travel. 7D2 has more FPS and focus point/autofocus system however you should be ok for kids sports.

In your use, i think the advantage of the 7D2 is the dual slot media card since you can copy to both files the same image (just in case something happened to one media card and you can't really go back in time to the same travel spot to get the same image). You can have 1 stop less light since fastest shutter is 1/8000 instead of 1/4000 and a built in flash (as an emergency fill?).

Another advantage of the built in flash is to use as a trigger to take his 430-2 off camera.

No flash on a 6d is a huge deal killer for me. I used/use my 20D/40D/7D flash for fill in bright sunlight and do not want to carry a flash.

I like to shoot landscape, but I also change to shooting very fast within a few seconds via the settings. I think I get pretty good sharpness using the lenses I have.

I'm kind of decided its 6d or 70D i don't think i will gain much from 7d-2. I will be trying out today and hope can find a decent deal tomorrow. Keep you posted.

6D without a doubt. I can never go back to a crop sensor body. There's just too much noise at 800+. On my 6D, I was getting great pictures at 3200. 6400 still useable, but i set my auto ISO limit to 3200

No flash on 6d is no big deal, especially for landscape/travel. A speedlite is not that bothersome to carry either

I disagree. Unless you want to print a poster, the 70D is fine at a higher ISO than 800. And the built in flash is very useful as it's good to about 8 to 10 meters at a low ISO value.

I'd pick better metering/focusing over a couple stops of ISO.

EFS mounts wont work on FF. You will need to get a 16-35 as a replacement for your 10-18

OP could also get the 17-40 f4, which is much cheaper.

I think the 6d's high iso capabilities are so good, i often shoot with no flash without any worries. If you do need a flash, an on-camera flash isnt going to cut it. It is such an awesome camera and from a value for money point of view, blows the 5diii out of the water. The 5dii is a great camera...but not at almost double the cost of a 6d.

Bought the 6D and 40mm 2.8 at ADEN @ Pacific Mall. I had originally mixed feelings about ADEN but this fellow really surprised me and got a very good price.
Now time to learn FF photography, thanks every one for your input.

Again, it depends on the sales associate you talk to. I've had Henry's screw up my rentals before. I've waited an hour to buy a single lens at Vistek before. Slow service at Vistek rentals. Aggressive sales tactics by old lady at Aden downtown. It all depends. Be an informed and smart shopper and you'll be fine. 6D and a 40 pancake is a good choice. Complements what you already have.

Just be aware of the 17-40's edges distortion, yikes! It's stretchy galore at 17mm! The 16-35 does it slightly better, but you're paying like a extra $500-$800 premium. Mainly for f/2.8 though.

Just got the 40 to go with my 6D. Great combo. My fav "general purpose" prime so far.
